Consulting Risks That Could Shut You Down
by Charles T. Wilson CMC
Mo4, Monday, October 25 - 9:00 AM to 10:15 AM
Description:
This workshop will be designed to help consultants
1) identify and understand their key risks both in their business and while working with clients or collaborating with others,
2) appreciate risk prevention, loss mitigation and contingency planning as key elements of self preservation, and
3) review their insurance options as risk management tools.
Objective / Value:
The workshop will be designed from input solicited in advance from IMC members and/or Confab attendees on their greatest perceived risks, problems and concerns. This input will provide focus and ‘connection’ to real, practical issues for the session. Participants will work through several exercises, discuss in small ad-hoc groups, report ‘ahas’, etc.
Several simple but often misunderstood theories and techniques of risk and risk management will be discussed (engagement cautions, collaboration & contractual issues, deadly sins, communication - periodic and end-of-engagement, testimonials, etc.) as prevention/ mitigation tools. Finally, we’ll discuss practical tips and traps of small business and consultant insurance coverage (liability, auto, workers comp, E&O, etc.).
